Advice on buying a new computer (mac vs pc, etc)?

i currently have an emac (discontinued) and for some reason the computer suddenly just stopped working right. first it started with safari not being able to save my bookmarks, then the entire computer just runs slow, can even navigate without getting a pinwheel. also i only have 4.38 GB left so i think it may be time for a new computer (unless someone knows how to fix my problem. so heres what i need out of a computer: im a movie maker so i need a computer w/ space and good editing software. also just a modern computer that runs very well. Im basically looking for alot of space, and a modern computer with new, good software. i've dealt with both mac and pc's before and am comfortable using both. im looking for as many suggestions as possible.Advice on buying a new computer (mac vs pc, etc)?
Go with a new iMAC. Very powerful, a lot of hard drive space. As for movie making, there is the basic iMove 08 which come with it or spring for the Final Cut Express.

Just my 2 cents.Advice on buying a new computer (mac vs pc, etc)?
Some of your problems may be due to your hard drive being nearly filled to capacity. Back up stuff you don't need and remove it from the drive.

Boot from the installation disks and run disk utility. Repair the disk and repair the permissions.

Add more memory.

If you decide to go with a new computer try one of the new iMacs - add memory and you should be good to go. You can also find used Macs inexpensively priced on craigslist, eBay and a number of online stores that deal with used Macs.

If you are doing heavy duty editing go with a MacPro or a (used) G5 PowerMac.

Most of the people recommending PC because Macs suck are talking out of their posterior because they're ignorant. Use what you feel most comfortable with.
never buy a mac under any circumstances. i would recommend a pc running windows vista ultimate with at least a 120GB hard drive and 1GB of memory. if they were still in production, i would recommend the same thing running windows xp media center, but those aren't in production anymore.
I would recommend a PC from Carbonfrost Systems. For the price they give one of the best deals around. Plus all name brand parts, 3 year warranty and full version of virus/spyware softwares.

I would recommend that you contact them at support@carbonfrost.com as they are always having secret sales and stuff.
I took a look and found these computers. Considering you previously owned a eMac which has a build in screen all the computers that are listed do too.

Also, you are a movie maker so i would suggest a 500gb hard drive, 3gb of ram and a Dual Core 3.0ghz processor if you can customize it (the gateway and viao aren't customizeable)

Most computers don't come with movie software execpt a VERY BASIC one. I would reccomend buying your own software.

DONT buy a mac thinking it will run your old programs. They recently switched processor technology which means old mac programs won't work on new macs.

I hope you get your new computer soon. Good luck!
I higly recommend Dell Inspiron 1501...a very good computer.
DUDE first of all i think macs suck....because from what i've heard...u cant upgrade them so u need to buy a new comp after every 4 yrs....that would suck...i mean....if u just need a better processor u'll have a get a whole new comp and abt ur movie making thing....i think u should go for a quad core processor i suggest using intel q6600 and u can get a 1 terabyte HDD...they are quite cheap now....so i dont think u'll need another HDD for 5-8 years if u have 1 terabyte of storage space...and if u have a PC there will be no compatibility issues at all....not many applications are made for macs....so i think u should just buy a powerful PC....and u should get the nvidia geforce 8800 GT graphic processor....its based on G92 chips.....its simply AWESOME!
I'd go with a Mac hands down. I'm guessing the people who say go PC have never owned a Mac and are just going by hearsay. In fact, I've talked several of my friends, who were previously PC users, into buying Macs and not one of them has regretted it. In fact, they wished they had gone Mac sooner. Not having to worry about viruses and spyware alone is enough to own a Mac. So, based solely on the fact that you want good software to make movies, a Mac is your obvious choice. Even the professionals use Macs, namely Final Cut Pro, for editing and whatnot. Macs have the power, the space and RAM (which is easily upgradable) to give you what you need and are stable machines. If you're going for a laptop, you have to go MacBook Pro because it is going to give you the power and speed you need. If you're going desktop, the high end iMac would be sufficient. You're going to want to get as much RAM and hard drive space as possible.
devil is pretty much on the money, macs are overrated. if ya notice,Pixar just switched from sun microsystems ( apple ) to blade servers, made with Intel cpu's, this was done back in 2004. I.L.M also has made the switch from apples to AMD. sony imageworks has changed,as did dream works. heres the article:

as you ought to be able to figure for yourself, apple/mac runs on hype
I recommend iMac.

Mac's have good hard drive space and take up much less space then PC's. Mac's are also more realiable, they can get about 3 virus's to PC's 114, 000. Mac's come with built in free spyware that you don't have to renew, and you proberly wouldn't need the spyware from the ammount of virus's. Unlike PC's that you have to renew and pay for subscriptions. Mac's are easier to use funner and don't come with a load of rubbish you don't need. Mac's can also run Windows so if you want Windows you should buy a Mac and then instal it. Then you get all the stuff you find on a PC but on a safer machine. The only finds Mac's arn't good at is gaming, but you don't want it for gaming so that dosn't matter. It also has a built in webcame if you want to record yourself or go on webcame online. The new iLife 08 will be on the new Mac's now aswell that has a load of new programmes to use and enjoy on including iMovie.

Most people that say Mac's are rubbish have never used a Mac. Mac's only own 10% of the PC market but every day 6,000 PC owner are turning to Mac and much less Mac owners are turning to PC. I said Mac's were rubbish to my friend who was buying one. After showing and telling me about a load of stuff I've decided that Mac's are the best. Make the right descion!

Good Luck!
