Does anyone have advice on moving to a new country with your whole family?

My parents run an organization which provides health care to rural communities in Guatemala and I just got back from visiting for the first time. I loved working with them...I would love to move there and help with their efforts. Thing is I am a parent of three children ages 5-11. Has anyone experienced trying this? Or any thoughts?Does anyone have advice on moving to a new country with your whole family?
The opportunities your kids will have in a situation like that more then make up for anything you will leave behind. I was adopted as a baby by two missionaries and spent my entire childhood in 3rd world countries.

People who grow up in Western society have a prejudice that because they have more ';things'; they have a better life. This is just not so - things do not make a life. In many ways life is better in those places then it is in the states. I am not sure about Guatemala, but I know that in Honduras you could put a 4 year old on a bus by herself to go across the country and never think twice about her arriving safe on the other end - try that in Europe or the USA.

Since it is your parents running things they should be able to help with the kids, you should at least talk about it with them. It will also allow your kids to learn Spanish which is something that will prove very valuable to them as they grow up. There are really a lot of positive things about doing this.

But you need to be smart about it also - have some safe house you can run to if you have to get out, and have the money set-aside for the airfare to do so.

God Bless

YA JUST PACK UP AND GO THIS IS GODS WORK GO FOR IT IT IS ALL GOOD WHAT A LUCKY PERSON AND WHAT LUCKY CHILDREN YOU AND YOUR PARENTS ARE WHO YOU ARE GO FOR IT GOD IS CALLING
Yes, don't even try it.
Well It would kinda be a little hard at first but it would be easy once you get to know the place well enough, but before you move there plan like a month trip with the whole family again then get some1 to show you around the place properly with family, so that way when you decide to move there it would kinda be easier to get around in certain places. its a good idea and its also a good opportunity for the kids it would even be better if it's a country that speaks a different langue so that ways it would be easy for the kids while they're young to learn another langue think of it as a golden key to a better future. good luck
Go for it!
You know what maybe you do love that job. But what do you love even more? A job or your own children. Maybe you can go visit and work a little bit. But keep your children where they were first growing up. It will be the best even though it doesn't feel like the best. Trust me.
LEt your kids grow up before you drag them to 3rd world nations. I think it is a great cause and it is so admirable that you want to get more hands on.

I think for the time being limit it to summer working-vacations for the whole family. I fear that your children's education would be so lacking if you moved there. The experience of helping in the summers when they are out of school would be immeasurable.

Try to get the best of both worlds for your kids. You owe your children that! (we all do as parents)
