Advice about paying bills?? new flat?

Hellooo. I am moving into my very own flat at the end of next month and need to get everything sorted out with it.

The thing is i have never done this before and do not know how it all works.....

What do i have to do to start paying for my electric and water?? There is no gas so that is ok...

I get my keys and start paying rent on the 39th of may but am not actually moving in until the 30th of June so really only want to start paying from then..

Do i have to start phoning up companies do you think or is it like, the landlord hands over all the bills to me?? I dont know lol

Also i do not know how to sort out council tax.....

I hope that someone can give me some advice and i really do appreciate it :D

Thank you!!!!!Advice about paying bills?? new flat?
Usually in the case of electric you need to ring the supplier and have the bill transferred into your name, you will start paying from the day you ring to tell them your now responsible for the bill, so really as soon as you get the keys. Most electric companies go on an estimated basis, which means you'll pay what they think you'll use so make sure when you ring them you have accurate metre readings, otherwise you might end up paying more then you should.

Water is the same, so you have to ring the water company and they will transfer it into your name for you. Your responsible for the electric and water from the date you sign the contract so ring as soon as possible.

Council tax is a little different, you can either ring them, go and see them or do it online. You will be giving a 25% for being the only person living there. they will send you a bill within a few weeks and set you your repayment details. It's payable from when you sign the contract also but they do give you a few weeks after they send you the bill before they will expect the first payment.

Don't forget Tv licence also.Advice about paying bills?? new flat?
Your landlord should have the information on who the Electricity and water suppliers are. You then need to contact them. As for you council Tax you need to contact your Local council Tax office, they will have a form you need to complete.

Hope this was of help
Speak to your landlord or letting agent and find out if they will be doing any of this for you, when a tenant moves into one of our properties we notify the utilities and council tax for them so they do not have to do anything until they receive their first bill.. if they dont do anything like this for you then do the following:

Take meter re

adings from the electricity the day you start your lease and contact them to set up your own account.

Contact your local council office to have that set up also on the same day,

The day you plan on moving in, have your TV License set up.

Re-Direct your mail

Wait until you move in and then arrange for installation of telephone lines, cable or sky etc.

Hope this helps xx
