Advice for picking up our new puppy from Iowa to Illinois?

On July 15th we are going to pick up our new puppy from a breeder in Iowa. We don't want shipping so we are just going to pick him up.He'll be 7 weeks old when we pick him up.Its a 5 hour drive to and back but will probably be longer on the way back.We are bringing regularly supplies to such as a crate, toys, towels ,e.t.c.We are a family of 5 and we have a mini van that can hold 6 and 1/2.umm... any necessary equitment i will need.Advice for picking up our new puppy from Iowa to Illinois?
My advice is to seriously question any breeder that would release a puppy at 7 weeks of age. 8 weeks is the bare minimum for large breeds and small breeds need 10-12 weeks minimum. It's an important time for socialization with mom and litter. Please be careful that this is not a puppy mill and wait till the pup is 8 weeks old. You might want to look elsewhere for a puppy.Advice for picking up our new puppy from Iowa to Illinois?
thats gonna be a long, long drive. when i got my puppy he whined all the way home and that was only for 1 hour. good luck with that
I'd be a little wary of a breeder willing to send a too young puppy across state lines before eight weeks.
7 weeks? Can you not wait just 1-2 more weeks??I waited almost 5 months to get my Shih-Tzu puppy and I just got her last saturday :),but it was so worth the wait. But if your not going to wait, you will need to stop somewhere to let him potty (not around other dogs) because Im sure he doesn't have all of his shots,I would take a pet taxi, with some blankets, toys, maybe a puppy kong with peanut butter in it,and some old towels(just in case.Good luck with your new puppy, what kind are you getting?
My only concern is why is he leaving the litter at 7 weeks?
You are buying from a puppy miller. No decent breeder would release a pup at 7 weeks, nor would they offer to ship! Back out now and go adopt a dog from the shelter.
