Need advice whether to buy a new drum set, or just replace a head?

My son has been learning to play the drums for 4 years. He is now 12, and is a keen player. We bought a second hand set for $200 in Australia. Brand name is Thunder (5 piece set), and it is made in Taiwan. He has two cymbals (brand - Anvil high performance alloy cymbals). Since I do not have any idea about drums I need some advice. He has just split his snare drum head. Do I go out and buy a replacement head (what brand?), or should I buy a whole new drum set (again what brand)? He wants to play in a rock band, but has also started in school band.Need advice whether to buy a new drum set, or just replace a head?
just get new heads

I'd recommend you the Remo Emperor X or the Evans G2 coatedNeed advice whether to buy a new drum set, or just replace a head?
Ok so it depends on whether you wanna spend money or not? Replacing the skin on the snare is very simple and not to deer. i would recommend getting a ';remo'; skin as they are pretty good and sound nice. However if you wanna buy your kid a whole new drum kit i would recommend a ';pearl';, exports are good enough, or if you wanna go into bigger money a drum workshop kit is very nice but will put a big hole in your pocket, however it is still possible to replace the broken skin on the snare are play away with the kit he has.
depending on if you want to upgrade the drums...if not.. just buy a new head..i like ';evans'; snare heads but everybody has their opinion... a lot of music stores will put the head on for you and tune it also...if you want to upgrade the drums...';pearl'; makes nice sets..
